Lvov

Lvov is the city in the western part of the country, often called the western capital of Ukraine. The chronicles mention about Lvov in 1256. According to the legend, the city was founded by Prince Daniil Galitskiy and named after his son Lev.

The present-day Lvov is a very important political and cultural center of Ukraine. Numerous cultural, historical and architectural monuments constitute the world spiritual heritage and are under the aegis of UNESCO. The Armenian Church (1363) is one of the most ancient monuments in Lvov; the glory of the 18th century architecture is St. George Cathedral; the Market Square; the Lvov Opera Theatre, which is the best in Europe as to its mighty architectural design; the Lychakov cemetery – the second in Europe as to the importance of buried people; St. Dominic Cathedral and monastery (17th cent.); many museums and castles, theaters and art galleries always caused genuine interest and admiration.
